What saddens me the most is that the majority of American voters were so bound and determined for "change," that they didn't bother considering in what direction that "change" would tske our country. I blame the republicans as much as the democrats, though, for their total failure and lack of leadership, when they had a golden opportunity to take this country where it needed to go. Now, assuming the American public wakes up and realizes the mistake it made, my fear is that it will take another generation at least to undo the damage that's just been done with this spend-ulous bill (not to mention the further damage that will be done for at least the next two years)... :(

Hopefully, in addition to the awakening of the general public, the Republicans will be able to put forward some actual conservatives who can articulate a @#@#@@!#^^& message. And people like Collins, Snow and Specter will not qualify.

Who ever said he was conservative!?! I never have, and anyone who believes that he is, is sorely mistaken...

I thought this seemed apropriate for this thread.

This video is theatrical, but I think it is interesting. The background music is pretty fitting considering the magnanimity of the bill the video chronicles.

McCain is far from the conservative I would have liked to have had represent the Republicans. I believe that there could stand to be some improvements to the Republican primary process. I'll have to look into this further but I suspect that it's possible for a certain amount of dilution to occur. Regardless, from what I recall, the exit polls of the primaries that actually mattered, indicated that a majority of those voting for McCain classified themselves as moderately or somewhat conservative. Therefore, those early primaries and caucuses that resulted in the highest assignation of delegates and with some of the "winner take all" rules that some use, we wound up with a candidate that I would consider "compromised". I believe that something like 5 out of the first 6 states that held primaries wound up voting Democratic in the actual election. The end result is that we were saddled with a candidate who, while definitely better that the alternative in our minds, was a far cry from what many of us would have preferred.
