Things i remember as I grew up.
The united states would never elect a catholic president because of the ties to the church and the pope.

Always was told Kennedy has a more active sex life that Clinton while they was both in office.
Remember then a 16 oz can of anything was 16 oz can. Then cam Nixon and total wage and price controls. Clinton `s ethics and All Gore invented the internet. But does anyone remember Spiro T Agnew ? His replacement was Ford .
I am not a crook. Yet he resined in disgrace with the unfolding of Watergate. Can not remember but want to think musky was the VP when ford took over. Think it was the first time a president and vice president was in office that was not elected by the people. Unless you count the people that believe that gore was robbed of the presidency against Bush the first go around.
Still waiting for the political leaders to solve the energy crisis that started with the first oil embargo in the early 70`s. And then again in the late 70`s too. Ang who cane remember the Win ****on and campaigning of Gerald ford`s plan. Lets just WHIP INFLATION NOW. Remember the hideous treatment our vets had but Ford pardoned the draft dodgers and brought them home.
Remember the Carter administration and prime rates that was around 20% or something. And when we talk about terrorism, did we not have hostages held in our one embassy for 400 some days? I remember Israel sending missiles sent into Iraq to take out the treat of W.M.D. many decades ago. Nuclear energy was going to destroy us but then there was Three mile island and whatever happened to Chernobyl in Russia.
As a child I was warned about global warning and if things was not done in a few years then the east coast would be gone and Dallas would be a sea side resort before the years 2000.
We are still polluting the earth and killing it but then do we not remember the past like Love Canal or that lake Eire and the Potomac river was dead and would never support life again? And do not recall all the times and number of dead but whatever happened to Bhopal India ?
Whatever would have happened if we never has “ read my lips. No knew taxes “ Would Clinton have beaten the first bush and then what if we did go all the way and take out Saddam in the first Gulf war? What if we decided not to out spend the Russians in the cold war time`s? Would we be the power we are and would the berlin wall still be standing? Unions are bad but was it not the labor unions that under the rule of communism in Poland and start the end of the eastern block? China is going to own the country and take over the United States with all the importing we do and trade that goes on but i can remember the same things being said about japan taking over this country and buying everything up.
Seems that it was not that long ago that African American was known as Blacks and before that as something else. But talking to a few older than me, they can remember not getting to vote and the policies that kept them down for many a lifetimes. Have to imagine that it was not more that 40 some years but less that 50 that it was hard for them to vote. Little more that to think of an African America president in there future. Grew up in a generation where mixed races was known as Zebras and would never be excepted. The word was thing about the children and the effects on them while all along we grow up forgetting about the needs of a father in the family and a two parent household.
Just wonder what life would be like if things happened differently. What if we got a grasp on the energy crisis in the seventies instead of setting on out ****s. Would Carter have still been president if the grains of sand did not cause helicopters to go down and they rescues the Hostages in Iran? Would Regan have ever run again? What If the taxes was not raised in Read My Lips? . Would we have seen Clinton In our future? Clinton had a chance to get Osama handed to him early in his administration. Would we have had 9-11? And what if we had the patience to Waite out Waco. Would the oklahoma bombing have happened? What if the first attempt to take down the world trade center was a success?
Yes there are many more things to think about and remember in just my time and many more things to come. But the one thing that i am proud of is that we are still standing and we are here despite the gloom and boom that is always preached by the political party not in control of the white house.
But when searching for true changes in attitudes please remember this. We had to draft those to serve our conrty and now we have volunteers We bring back our sons and daughters from war with love, respect and open arms. It was not that long ago ( in my life time ) that we ran to other countries to hide and called our troops baby killers.
A wise old person once told me that gloom and doom is more talk that real life. Just study history and it will tell you what your future is or what you need to change it. Some times the best thing for our leaders is to just do nothing.
