Has anyone noticed the increased police activity in school zones this year? I'm all for having a police presence in school zones to promote safe driving (e.g., speeders, running stop signs, etc.). However, it seems like the police department is using "schools back" for other means...driving up revenues!

Examples This Week:
* 4-5 police officers on foot at Boyd HS handing out tickets for expired registrations and inspection stickers. Should we be using our school zones to monitor registrations and inspections? Are we targeting parents of school age children for tickets? Is it distracting to have police officers yelling at drivers and pulling them over in the school zone? Doesn't that take driver's attention away from our children?
* Ironically, the officers were only issuing warnings to those using cell phones in a school zone, an obvious safety issue.
* At Wolford Elementary, an officer threatened to write a $100 ticket for jaywalking to a parent walking her child home from the first day at school.
* On Wednesday the same officer bark condescending commands at drivers from his perch under a shade tree..."GO! You have the right of way!"..."Turn your blinker on!"

These are just the few examples that I am aware off. Don't get me wrong, I like having a police presence to remind people that our children come first. However, I take exception to the tactics being used this week that have little (or nothing) to do with child welfare. Is it about grabbing some easy revenue? I don't know but clearly there is some sort of police directive in school zones!! Please Mckinney PD, don't insult the taxpayers by saying that we're there to enforce the school zone ordinances if all you are doing is writing tickets for expired inspections and yelling at parents!

Come on McKinney PD, let's focus on "protecting and serving!" Set up speed traps and stop people who are rolling through stop signs! I'm okay with that. I'm not okay with you yelling at my wife and her friends! It borders on harrassment.

If you have a similar story please share!!

If you haven't experienced this BEWARE...it's coming to a school near you!:)

DRude,
I understand what you are saying.. but, on the flip side. I have also experienced parents who are in there own world while dropping off their child and are obvlivious to the rest of the world around them..
If your not doing anything wrong, you won't give the police anything to say to you..

The Blue Jays will have a HOF. It may take him a few times on the ballot, but he should get in.
